And so my obsession with fairy tales and the eighteenth century continues… Recently I started a new project, Frank’s Fantastic Fairy Tale Theatre, with Frank Oakes and members of Maitland Repertory Theatre. Frank’s started as a drawing in a sketchbook and has rapidly grown into a lovely little portable theatre that performs in and around Maitland, NSW. Our aim is to tell traditional fairy tales in new ways for contemporary kids. We make our puppets, plays and costumes. Kadisha Patterson is head of (puppet) costume, and she’s designed their clothing based on the research she did into eighteenth century French costume for My Year as a Fairy Tale. These photos were taken by Lizz Mackenzie at a recent performance at Watt Space Gallery, Newcastle. N’joy!
